002 Vision For Our Learners

The Vision For Our Learners (VFOL) position statement established by the Board of Trustees is italicized below. The subsequent bulleted descriptions provide a partial explanation of each of the six components of this vision statement.

A maturing Morrison student will be a:

Christ Follower,

Effective Communicator,

Critical and Creative Thinker,

Life-long Learner,

Moral and Ethical Citizen,

Wise and Responsible Steward,

VFOL Middle School Version

All of the adults at Morrison Academy think God made you pretty special! We want to see you grow in lots of ways ….

As a Christ follower—This one is REALLY important! This means that you love God and understand that the bad stuff you do (sins) can be forgiven because Jesus already paid the ultimate punishment. You want to do what the Bible says you should do, pray and make good decisions that would please God. You also need to accept that “God made you special, and He loves you very much!”

As an effective communicator—This is an easy one! Basically, we want you to be able to read, write, and speak really, really excellently! It’s also important to work well in groups and with other students and adults, because that’s what most people have to do in the “real world.”

As a critical and creative thinker—Yep, this is important! God gave you a brain, and we want you to use it! Solving problems, being creative, and pushing yourself to really, really think about something are definitely good things! We’ve got some big plans for you in every subject area, and we want you to do your best.

As a life-long learner—Have you ever wondered why some people in this world never want to leave school?! Teachers are great examples of life-long learners, and we want you to be one too! LLLs are curious about the world around them, use lots of technology, and try to figure things out using different methods.

As a moral and ethical citizen—Oh, yeah! This is an important one. You’ve heard about being a good citizen since Kindergarten. Respecting others, having some self-control, and keeping a positive attitude are things you just have to do. Not only is this fair to others, but it’s what God wants us to do! When you make decisions while thinking about what would please God, you’re being a moral and ethical citizen.

As a wise and responsible steward—This one is fun, but it’s not as easy as it sounds! Most importantly, remember your talents and possessions were given to you, so you should generously use it to serve others. Remember that all your talents and stuff were given to you, so you should generously share them with others. It’s also really important to take care of your body: eat right, exercise, take baths, brush your teeth, and all those other things your Mom tells you to do! The last thing you need to do is realize that because God is the Creator of all things, He made us to create too. This means that it’s important to enjoy things like art, music, sports, and dance. Finally, watch what you say! It’s important to say things that are helpful to others whether it is in person or over the Internet.

010 School-Wide Appraisal Process

Morrison’s professional learning community uses the School-Wide Appraisal (SWA) process to routinely analyze a variety of assessment data to improve student learning and monitor alignment with the organization’s position statements.

The following SWA surveys and assessments have been aligned with the organization’s position statements. The SIP Coordinator manages the implementation of the SWA calendar, and monitors SWA benchmarks for each of the surveys and assessments.

Process

  1. Data collection: The SIP Coordinator collects the data and organizes it into disaggregated reports.
  2. Analysis: The Superintendent, Director of Learning, and SAC administrators facilitate the collaborative analysis and dissemination of these reports.
    Action steps:
    a. Administrator designated teams use the data to set campus, department, and team goals.
    b. Parent Advisory Committees use the data to reflect on school programs.
    c. SAC uses the data to set and review SIP goals.
    d. The Board uses this data to monitor program alignment with position statements.
  3. Reporting: Findings are disseminated by the SIP Coordinator and SAC administrators. The Director of Communications publishes report findings to stakeholders through the School-Wide Appraisal Dashboard.
